Library Services for August and Fall Semester

Please read on for some important Library announcements concerning Library service now and in the fall semester.    Our newly developed Faculty Guide to the Remote Library summarizes much of this content, and will be updated regularly with new/revised information. There will also be a Faculty Q & A session Tuesday at 12n.

“Curbside” Pickup

First, we're pleased to announce that curbside lending will debut on Monday August 3. Through this service faculty and staff will be able to borrow almost any physical item in our circulating collections. Detailed instructions follow in a separate message.

Physical Course Reserves Not Available

Unfortunately physical Course Reserves will not be available. Safety protocols require that all library materials must be quarantined for a minimum of 3 days each time they are loaned. This restriction makes a traditional short-term loan reserve impractical. So…

Contact Ask A Librarian ASAP for Help with Required Readings

PLEASE SEND YOUR LISTS OF REQUIRED READINGS to Ask A Librarian as soon as possible. We have had great success in providing electronic access to many of the requests we receive. For materials that aren’t available online, librarians will work with each instructor to find alternatives.

Staffing constraints - and the limits of Fair Use – prevent us from providing a comprehensive scanning service for all materials on reserve.  However, if you have an instructional need that cannot be met by any other means, let us know via Ask A Librarian.  We will support limited on-demand scanning where there is unmet instructional need.

You may also choose to borrow physical items and digitize portions for online delivery.  We strongly encourage you to remember Fair Use guidelines and the campus Accessibility policy (in the Blackboard community "Accessible Classroom: Faculty and Staff Toolkit" - you must be logged in to Blackboard to use this link).  Although the Library does not advise on copyright questions, we can point you toward several useful resources.

Research Help and Library Instruction Online

Research Help will remain online only for the Fall.  Our Ask A Librarian service and department liaisons will coordinate access to resources, information literacy, management instruction and research help as needed, using chat, email, web conferencing and other tools

Library instruction will be delivered online as either synchronous or asynchronous, depending on the structure and needs of the course.

Final re-opening plans are nearly complete.  I hope to be able to announce details very shortly.
