RHV Client Installation Instructions

You have to install client software to use RHEV virtual desktops.  The name of the installer package is Virt Viewer.  The program that gets run from the User Portal to connect to a virtual desktop is named Remote Viewer.
 

Software Installation Instructions:

Windows

  1. After logging into the User Portal (http://desktop.newpaltz.edu), you should see a link named Client Resources on the right side of the browser window. Click this link.
  2. A web page named Console Client Resources should appear. There should be links for 32-bit and 64-bit msi installers of the Virt Viewer program. Choose the appropriate build for your computer and click on the link.
  3. Run the .msi installer file.
  4. There is also a link for USB Clerk on this page. This program allows you to redirect USB devices such as flash drives from your computer to the virtual desktop. This is one way to transfer files between your local computer and the virtual desktop.

Mac

The current recommendation for Mac OS X users is to use the HTML5 client.

Linux

  1. You will have to find a virt-viewer package for your Linux distribution (Mint, Ubuntu, etc.).
  2. There is also a USB redirection package named usbredir.
