Upgrade from Lynda.com to LinkedIn Learning

What changes to Lynda.com can I expect with this upgrade?

Lynda.com was acquired by LinkedIn to form LinkedIn Learning.  This new platform will have all the same content you trusted and enjoyed from Lynda.com, but it now has additional tools, more relevant recommendations for other useful content, and new ways to earn badges and certificates to enhance your LinkedIn profile.

As with Lynda.com, LinkedIn Learning will be available for free to all SUNY New Paltz faculty, staff, and students!

When is the upgrade happening?

  • The upgrade will happen on September 23, 2019
  • Important!  During the upgrade, there will be 24 hours of downtime when neither system will be available
  • LinkedIn Learning will first be available on September 24, 2019.
  • If the upgrade date or availability date for LinkedIn Learning changes for any reason, the campus will be notified via email.

What is the full process for the upgrade?

1. You will receive an email reminder 2 days prior to the upgrade.  If you enter Lynda.com during this time, you will also see a reminder banner in the software (see image below):

2. Important!  The platform will be unavailable for 24 hours while upgradingStudents should plan accordingly if they have Lynda.com-related assignments due around this time!

3. After the upgrade, you will need to reactivate your account.

4. You'll receive reminders if you don't reactivate after 7 days

How will it impact students?

  • Students will not have access to either platform for 24 hours on September 23, 2019
  • Once the upgrade is complete, students will have full access to the LinkedIn Learning platform with their SUNY New Paltz ID and Password
  • Previous Lynda.com users will still be able to see their progress in courses, as well as any badges or certificates they earned in Lynda.com

How will it impact faculty and staff?

  • Faculty and staff will not have access to either platform for 24 hours on September 23, 2019
  • Once the upgrade is complete, faculty and staff will have full access to the LinkedIn Learning platform with their SUNY New Paltz ID and Password
  • Previous Lynda.com users will still be able to see their progress in courses, as well as any badges or certificates they earned in Lynda.com
  • Previous Lynda.com users who created playlists will still retain the use of those lists
  • Important!  If you included links to Lynda.com videos or courses in Blackboard or on any other platform (ex. Hawksites), those links will redirect to the correct video or course in LinkedIn Learning for six months.  Ideally, faculty should replace the old links with the new LinkedIn Learning URL's over Winter break, but no later than February 29, 2020 or they will cease to work.
