Weighted Total for Grade Center

Blackboard offers Weighted columns which can create a weighted sum of all grades for students based on column or category weighting. This is useful if your syllabus like most, does not weigh every assignment equally. For additional information see Blackboard's own explanation of Calculated Grades

By using the weighted total column you can set your grade center to calculate a grade using your criteria.

    • An category worth 35% of the students grade would divide the assignments in that category into smaller percentages summing to 35%
  8. You can choose to drop any number of highest or lowest grades in a category.
  9. You can also choose to have each assignment in the category be wieghed equally or proportionally.
    • The difference is if you have set the point value of a test to be 50, and another test to be 25, equal column weight would treat them as both being worth the same, whereas proportional column weight would have the 50 point test count twice as much.
