Clearing the Cache for Teams

Body

If you are having issues where Teams is not displaying file tabs properly or other similar issues it may be time to clear out the cache that Teams relies upon. You may see error messages such as the one below when trying to access resources in Teams.

On a Windows PC:

  1. If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar, and then select Quit.
  2. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key  +R.
  3. In the Run dialog box, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and then select OK.
  4. Delete all files and folders in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams directory.
  5. Restart Teams.

If that doesn't work you can also reset the app in windows 10 or 11

Resetting the App

  1. open the windows start menu and go to settings, it looks like a cog wheel
  2. go to Apps
  3. select microsoft teams from the list and then advanced options
  4. scroll down the page and select the Reset option

Once the app reset is completed you will need to reopen Teams and see if the issue has been resolved

On a Mac:

  1. If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the dock, and then select Quit, or press Command (⌘)-Q.

  2. In the Finder, open the /Applications/Utilities folder, and then double-click Terminal.

  3. Enter the following command, and then press Return:

    rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Teams
