Hello all,
Just wanted to send a warning about a fraudulent email that has been reported. The message appeared to come from President Christian. They used his name – though the ‘from’ address had nothing to do with the college.
See below for an example:
Presumably – If the recipient had believed it was legitimate – they would have sent back their cell phone – and received further instructions. These instructions would invariably to be to perform some task to get the criminals money at some point (performing a wire transfer is a common request from criminals).
Unfortunately – these messages are harder to filter out as spam than many others. I’ve made some changes based on this message, but be suspicious of any similar requests (or any message that doesn’t feel like it was sent by the purported sender).
Sadly – Microsoft doesn’t make it easy to find the actual sender’s email. I’ve created an article on our support site that shows how to see the sender’s address. Check this when in doubt:
