Body
The on-campus Wi-Fi network NP Hawks WPA will no longer be available as of Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
If your device is currently using NP Hawks WPA it will no longer be able to connect to campus Wi-Fi after that date. To stay connected, please switch your device to the eduroam network. Devices already using eduroam or NP Hawks Devices will not be affected.
Action Needed
Before July 14: You can check which campus Wi-Fi network your device is using by opening its Wi-FI settings and seeing which network is currently connected. You only need to take action if your device is using NP Hawks WPA. If it is, have your device "forget" NP Hawks WPA and then set it up to use eduroam. Please see our article, How to "Forget" a wireless network on various devices, for how to do this.
After July 14: If your PC, laptop, smartphone, or tablet had Wi-Fi access before July 14th but no longer connects afterward, it was most likely set up to use NP Hawks WPA. You will need to configure it to use eduroam.
In most cases, all you need to do is open the device's Wi-Fi settings on your device, select eduroam, and enter your SUNY New Paltz Username and Password. This is the same username and password you use for my.newpaltz.edu, Brightspace, and other campus services. Remember to include @newpaltz.edu as part of your username.
Please see our detailed eduroam guides for common devices:
- Android phones (and tablets)
- Apple iPhone and iPads (iOS/iPadOS)
- Chromebook
- Apple macOS laptops and desktops
- Windows laptops and desktops

Getting Help
For hands-on assistance, you may bring your device to the IT Service Desk in HUM 103. You may also call the IT Service Desk at 845-257-HELP (x4357). (See Service Desk Info for current hours of operation).
Why is this change happening?
eduroam is our secure campus Wi‑Fi network for students, faculty, and staff. Once your device is set up, it can connect automatically on our campus and at many other participating schools and universities.
It was introduced at New Paltz back in 2020 as part of a broader SUNY effort. eduroam provides the same campus Wi-Fi access as NP Hawks WPA while also offering added benefits, such as Wi-Fi Internet access for our campus community at other participating campuses and access for their visitors when they come here.
NP Hawks WPA was created years before eduroam was added to our campus and overlaps with what eduroam provides. Keeping both networks available can confuse users and may cause intermittent connection issues on devices that are mistakenly setup to use both.
