eduroam (short for "education roaming") is a secure global roaming Wi-Fi access service for the education and research communities. For more information about eduroam and where service is available see our introduction to eduroam.
Only ONE campus Wi-Fi network should be setup on your device at a time. If you setup a device for eduroam make sure to make your device forget the NP Hawks WPA, NP Hawks Devices, and NP Hawks Guest networks to avoid potential connection problems. See our resources on how to "forget" a Wi-Fi network on a device.
To begin open the list of available wireless networks by clicking on the wireless/Wi-Fi icon on the upper top right corner of the screen. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and click on eduroam.
For the Account Name you will need to use your SUNY New Paltz Username followed by @newpaltz.edu. As an example if your SUNY New Paltz Username is myusername then you should enter it as myusername@newpaltz.edu. Enter your password and make sure Remember this information is checked. Do not select a certificate. Click the OK button to continue.
You may now see a window named Verify Certificate asking if you would like to view the server certificate or continue.
You may optionally verify you are connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network by clicking the Show Certificate button. The details displayed should match the image below. Make sure Always trust "radius.newpaltz.edu" is checked. As of May 29, 2025 the SHA-256 Fingerprint shown under Details is 85 3E A1 FE E5 5F B5 84 FD 89 B3 17 B5 3B 64 E1 4E 8A 56 85 2D 4F 35 D6 B9 52 37 CD 86 42 4B 85.
Click the Continue button to proceed.
You may now be prompted for your Username and Password to make changes to your Certificate Trust Settings. Enter the username and password you use to login to your Mac OS desktop or laptop when turning on the computer and NOT your email address, SUNY New Paltz account details, etal.
You should now be connected to the eduroam wireless network.
The most common cause for problems setting up your device is a mistyped username or password.
