Getting on eduroam - Chromebook

eduroam (short for "education roaming") is a secure global roaming Wi-Fi access service for the education and research communities. For more information about eduroam and where service is available see our introduction to eduroam.

Only ONE campus Wi-Fi network should be setup on your device at a time. If you setup a device for eduroam make sure to make your device forget the NP Hawks WPA, NP Hawks Devices, and NP Hawks Guest networks to avoid potential connection problems. See our resources on how to "forget" a Wi-Fi network on a device.

To begin click the button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen with the time and the wifi icon.  Click the Wifi / networks bubble in the upper left corner of the popup that appears.  When not connected it most likely says "Not connected".

A popup labeled "Network" should appear. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and select the "eduroam" network from the list of "Unknown networks".

In the pop-up dialog labeled "Join Wi-Fi network" that appears use the following options. You will need to scroll down to see all of the options.

For your username you will need to use your SUNY New Paltz Username followed by @newpaltz.edu. As an example if your SUNY New Paltz Username is myusername then you should enter it as myusername@newpaltz.edu. When done click the Connect button.

  • EAP Method: EAP-TTLS (Note: EAP-TLS is different and will not work)
  • EAP Phase 2 authentication: Automatic
  • Server CA certificate:Do not check
  • Subject match: radius.newpaltz.edu
  • Subject alternative name match: <leave blank>
  • Domain suffix match: <leave blank>
  • Identity: <your username>@newpaltz.edu
  • Password: <your password>
  • Anonymous identity: <leave blank>
  • Check "Save identity and password"

Click the "Connect" button.

You should now be connected to the eduroam wireless network.

The most common cause for problems setting up your device is a mistyped username or password.
