Account Login Issues - Office Computers

Here are some common issues seen when logging in and what they mean.

Office Computer login screen and proper login information

Please note that you should only enter the first part of UserName, Not your full email address on an office computer login.  In this case our username is UserNameHere and our email address would appear as UserNameHere@newpaltz.edu if needed elsewhere. Do not log in with your email address as it will not work properly (see below).

Bad Username, Bad Password, or No Account

Please verify your username (it cannot have a leading space, this will cause it to fail) and password. If you are unsure of your password, use the same password that you use to log into your email or my.newpaltz.edu. If this does not work please call the service desk at 845-257-HELP (4357) and they can verify if you have an admin LAN account and/or issue you a password reset.

Resolution - check your username or password for a typo. If this fails please contact the service desk at 845-257-4357 to verify that you have an Admin LAN account

Logging in With an Email Address by Mistake

If you attempt to login with you email address as above you will receive the error below

"We can't sign you in with this credential because your domain isn't available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization's network and try again. If you previously signed in on this device with another credential, you can sign in with that credential."

Resolution - Log in with your username and not your email address

Expired Account

If you get the error that the user's account has expired you will have to see your department chair or administrative assistant so that they can put in an account request on your behalf. ITS or the Service Desk will be unable to help as this is a departmental issue.

Resolution - contact your chair, manager, or administrative assistant (or other department representative) so that they can put in an account request on your behalf.

No Network

If you have logged in before to this computer you will log in but not be able to get to the internet or other resources (network printers, network drives, etc). If this is your first time logging into this computer you will see one of the two messages

"We can't sign you in with this credential because your domain isn't available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization's network and try again. If you previously signed in on this device with another credential, you can sign in with that credential."

or

"There are currently no logon servers are available to service the logon request"

Resolution - please call the service desk at 845-257-HELP so that they can open a ticket to have the network status in your office investigated, more than likely this will require an onsite visit to your office. If you have recently rearranged your office please move the wired computer connection back to its original location.
