Office Reporting as "Unlicensed"
If any Office product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is reporting that it is "Not Activated" or "Unlicensed," often the issue is related to the account signing in to the program.
This guide will walk through the basic steps of signing out and back in to Microsoft 365 to re-activate the license.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact IT to schedule time for remote assistance.
Signing Out of Microsoft 365
If you are already signed in to office, follow these steps to sign out completely.
- Open up an Microsoft 365 application, such as Word or Excel
- Select the "Account" menu from the bottom left-hand corner
- Under "User Information" select "Sign Out," then close all Office applications.
Signing In to Microsoft 365
Once you are completely signed out, follow these steps to sign back in to office and re-activate the license.
- Open up any Microsoft 365 application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Click either "Sign In" at the top right-hand corner, or "Account" in the bottom left-hand corner.
- If you use the top-right "Sign In" button, you can proceed to sign in using your @newpaltz.edu e-mail address and password.
- If you navigate to the "Account" menu, you should see a "Sign In" button under the "User Information" column. Follow the prompts and proceed to sign in using your @newpaltz.edu e-mail address and password.
- After signing in, close all Office applications. Then, once they are opened again, office should be licensed for your account.
