Microsoft Authenticator - Using it with a Yubikey Security Key

A number of faculty/staff have Yubikeys (small USB devices that can go on a key chain) in place of getting the Microsoft Authenticator app or getting text messages to log in.  The process for using these Yubikeys is as follows:

  1. Use Chrome as your browser.  Only Chrome works reliably across Windows/Mac/Linux.
  2. Go to log in to New Paltz systems/services as normal (entering your username & password).
  3. You will then be prompted to put in your Yubikey (if it isn't already inserted),
  4. After that - you'll be prompted to enter the pin for the Yubikey.  Note: If the Service Desk setup the Yubikey for you and you don't know the code you were provided - please contact the Service Desk.

  5. Then - touch the blinking gold circle on the Yubikey.
