Below are instructions on how to log in and access the VMWare Horizon VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) system.
Using VDI from your web browser
Using VDI from the Windows client
Using VDI from the Mac client
Note: If you are an active, but not currently registered, student, you will not be able to access the VDI system without special exception. To request an exception, please email InformationSecurity@newpaltz.edu.
Using VDI from your web browser
Using the VDI system from your web browser is the easiest way as it doesn't require installing any additional software. If you plan on using VDI frequently - you may want to install the Windows or Mac client, depending on your operating system, as per the sections below. If you are using the web version, see the instructions below:
- Go to https://vdi.newpaltz.edu
- Click the "VMWare Horizon HTML Access" link.
- If you are already logged into New Paltz services like email, my.newpaltz.edu, or Brightspace - you will skip the screen below. If not - just log at the screen below as you normally would for other college systems.
- You will have to enter your password again on the following screen. Use the same password as you use for other New Paltz systems and services. Your username will already be filled in.
- That's it - you will then see one or more virtual images to choose from (depending on your role, major, department, etc.).
Using VDI from the Windows client
- If you don't already have it - download and install the free VMWare Horizon client from https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/downloads/info/slug/desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_horizon_clients/horizon_8
- Open the application. If you've never used it to connect to our VDI system before you will need to click Add Server. If you already have added it - you just need to right click on the one as shown and choose Connect.
- Specify vdi.newpaltz.edu as the server to connect to, as in the screenshot below.
- Your default web browser will open for the initial sign in window. If you are already logged in (in that browser) to other New Paltz systems like Outlook or my.newpaltz.edu, you won't see this login screen but will see the one in step 5 below.
- When you see the next login prompt - just enter your New Paltz password as you do on other systems. Your username should already be filled out.
- That's it - you will then see one or more virtual images to choose from (depending on your role, major, department, etc.).
Using VDI from the Mac client
- If you don't already have it - download and install the free VMWare Horizon client from https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/downloads/info/slug/desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_horizon_clients/horizon_8
- Open the application. If you've never used it to connect to our VDI system before you will need to click Add Server. If you already have added it - you just need to right click on the one as shown and choose Connect.
- Specify vdi.newpaltz.edu as the server to connect to, as in the screenshot below.
- Your default web browser will open for the initial sign in window. If you are already logged in (in that browser) to other New Paltz systems like Outlook or my.newpaltz.edu, you won't see this login screen - but it may take a moment for the Horizon client to get to the next stage.
- When you see the next login prompt - just enter your New Paltz password as you do on other systems. Your username should already be filled out.
- That's it - you will then see one or more virtual images to choose from (depending on your role, major, department, etc.).
