Note: Since late 2021, Hawkmail has not been the official email system for students at SUNY New Paltz. In general, new accounts are no longer created there. There are some students who are taking courses in the School of Education though where Google Classroom and other Google Workspace tools are a topic of the course. For those courses, we do create Hawkmail accounts. We strongly recommend that students with Hawkmail accounts setup an automatic forwarding from their Hawkmail account (@hawkmail.newpaltz.edu) to their Microsoft 365 account (@newpaltz.edu). Here's how to do this.
Forward all new emails from Hawkmail to your Microsoft 365 (@newpaltz.edu) account
- Open your Hawkmail account (make certain you are in Hawkmail, and not a personal GMail account)
- Click the gear in the top right.
- Click See all settings.
- Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Click Add a forwarding address in the “Forwarding” section.
- Enter your @newpaltz.edu email address
- For your security, we'll send a verification email to that address. Open your other email account and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team. If you’re having trouble finding it, check your Junk/Spam folder.
- Click the verification link in that email.
- Back in your Hawkmail account, reload the page in your web browser - look for the reload icon .
- On the same Forwarding and POP/IMAP page in Settings, check that Forward a copy of incoming mail is selected and your email address is in the drop-down menu.
- In the second drop-down menu, choose what you want Gmail to do with your messages after they’re forwarded, such as keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox or archive Gmail’s copy.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
