Supported Wireless Standards

All devices with WiFi support should work on the campus wireless network.  When buying a laptop or mobile device we strongly recommend that you buy one with either 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) or 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) support. Devices that only support 802.11n (Wi-Fi 4), or 802.11g (Wi-Fi 3) or older should be avoided. This information will be listed in the technical details for the device on the manufacture’s website.

When buying a new device, it’s important to make sure the device you choose supports newer wireless standards such as 802.11ax or the slightly older 802.11ac – a device with this wireless standard will give you a far better experience when sharing a busy campus wireless network because it will give you access to additional wireless capacities not available to devices lacking this standard (while devices lacking 802.11ax and 802.11ac will work, users with these types of devices will often get experience slower speeds and less reliable connections than users using devices supporting newer standards).
