Adding a Title to a PDF Document

Overview

Setting the title of a PDF may seem minor, but in terms of web accessibility this step is very important to a user who relies on assistive technology.  Creating a meaningful title - key word here is meaningful! (i.e. specific like "2018_budget_report," instead of vague like "document3") - allows the user to confirm that they are accessing the correct document.

Resolution

To set the title of a PDF document follow these steps:

  1. Begin in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.
  2. Open the file you want to update.
  3. Select the File tab.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Select the Description tab.
  6. Type a meaningful title for the document in the Title field.
  7. Save your changes.
