Getting on eduroam - Windows

eduroam (short for "education roaming") is a secure global roaming Wi-Fi access service for the education and research communities. For more information about eduroam and where service is available see our introduction to eduroam.

Only ONE campus Wi-Fi network should be setup on your device at a time. If you setup a device for eduroam make sure to make your device forget the NP Hawks WPA, NP Hawks Devices, and NP Hawks Guest networks to avoid potential connection problems. See our resources on how to "forget" a Wi-Fi network on a device.

Some laptops have a physical on/off switch that controls the wireless connection; if this applies to your laptop, be sure that the switch is set to “On.” Also make sure your device does not have "Airplane Mode" enabled.

To begin bring up the list of available wireless networks. On the Windows desktop on the bottom right corner find the WiFi icon.  When not connected to a network it may appear as a globe icon.

A popup window will appear. Find the WiFi icon on the upper left hand corner of the popup window and click the > symbol next to it to Manage Wi-Fi connections.

Make sure Wi-Fi is enable. On the list of available wireless networks click eduroam. Make sure Connect automatically is checked then click the Connect button.

You should now be prompted for your username and password. For your username you will need to use your SUNY New Paltz Username followed by @newpaltz.edu. As an example if your SUNY New Paltz Username is myusername then you should enter it as myusername@newpaltz.edu. Enter your password and click the OK button to continue.

After entering your username@newpaltz.edu and password you will be asked if you wish to continue connecting. You may optionally click the Show certificate details link to verify the certificate to ensure you are signing into the correct wireless network. As of May 28, 2025 the Server thumbprint should be 8C E2 FA DD 44 0C DC 61 6F 16 D2 00 D0 39 33 AB 96 90 A2 36. Click the Connect button to continue.

You should now be connected to the eduroam wireless network.

The most common cause for problems setting up your device is a mistyped username or password.
