Getting Your Device Online - A Quick Guide

The students, faculty, and staff of SUNY New Paltz along with authorized guests are welcome to connect their personal Wi-Fi capable devices to our Wi-Fi networks for Internet access.

Students, Faculty, and Staff - Personal Devices

Laptops, Tablets, Smartphones, and Wi-Fi capable Desktops

Laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones should be connected via the NP Hawks WPA wireless network. Setup guides for NP Hawks WPA are available for different device types.

If a user will be spending time a significant amount of time on other college campuses that participate in the global eduroam Wi-Fi network you may instead wish to setup your device to connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network instead. Setup guides are available for eduroam.

NOTE: Only ONE campus Wi-Fi network should be setup on your device at a time. If you setup a device for eduroam make sure to make your device forget the NP Hawks WPA network to avoid potential connection problems.

Game Consoles, TVs, Smart Home devices (IoT)

Many devices typically found in the home cannot properly support the security mechanisms used for the NP Hawks WPA and eduroam wireless networks. These devices will need to connect to the NP Hawks Devices network instead. Setup guides for the NP Hawks Devices network are available.

Wired Residential

Every residence hall bedroom has at least one wired network port available for devices you'd like to hardwire. See our guide on Residential Wired (sometimes called "ResNet").

Visitors and Guests

Visitors to our campus can utilize the NP Hawks Guest wireless network for guest Internet access. See our guide on using the NP Hawks Guest Wi-Fi network.

Visitors coming from institutions participating in eduroam can utilize on-campus eduroam service for Internet access with no further configuration needed. Consult your home institution's IT department for information on how to setup your device to use eduroam.
