Resolve Windows License Expiration Notice

Since we have been working remotely for such a long time, your computer hasn't checked in with our systems on campus. This can cause your licensed copy of windows to lose its verification, which will give you a notice saying your copy of windows is expired or invalid.

  1. Connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN with your SUNY New Paltz username credentials.
  2. Remain connected for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Lock your device while still connected to the VPN
  4. Wait 5 minutes, then login again.

If Method 1 does not resolve this notification, then follow Method 2 below.

Method 2:

  1. Connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN with your SUNY New Paltz username credentials.
  2. Once connected, open Command Prompt from the start menu.
    1. Open up the Windows Start Menu
    2. Search for command or command prompt, then click on it
    3. Type in gpupdate /force and hit enter.
  3. Once the process completes, restart your computer.
  4. After restarting, re-connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN and run Windows Updates.

Method 3:

  1. Bring your computer to campus
  2. Plug it into a hard-wired connection in your office 
  3. Boot your computer and login
  4. It should be on and logged in for at least 30 minutes
