Getting Started: Students

General

• New Paltz Computer Username is the key to access the majority of system at SUNY New Paltz.
  • On your first login, you will be asked to set up Two-Factor Authentication.
  • Polices and Terms of Service for all computers campus computer systems.
• My New Paltz is the primary portal used to interact with numerous departments at SUNY New Paltz.
• Email/Microsoft Office Applications:
  • Microsoft 365 is the default email system for students. Please head to our Getting Started with Office 365 page for more information.
  • Through our campus, you have a Office 365 subscription. Head to our Installing Microsoft 365 page to install the applications. 
• Connectivity
  • Wireless through eduroam
  • Media Console and IoT Device Registration
  • Remote Access / VPN provides a secure connection with on-campus systems.

Computer Labs

• A list of all the computer labs in SUNY New Paltz can be found in our Labs List
• Public Labs are computer labs that are not normally scheduled for classes and provide access to general software.
• Department Labs are computer labs that are schedulable for classes and provide access to general software as well as discipline specific software.
• Some labs have printers that can be used through the lab computers. Head to our Lab Printing Tutorial and Printing FAQs to learn more. 
• You can request an account to access our Linux-based Workstations, servers and other services. 

Online Resources

• Brightspace is our learning management system on campus. This provides a place for instructors to electronically distribute and collect course materials, keep grades, and give tests.

• Virtual Desktop Infrastructure provides access to a fully configured workstation environment as well as specific software from both on and off campus.
• Panopto is our campus video creation and sharing platform.

• LinkedIn Learning - LinkedIn Learning is an online educational platform offering thousands of expert-led courses in business, technology, and creative skills, designed to help individuals and organizations upskill efficiently. This resource is available for all active New Paltz Faculty, Staff and Students.

Remote Learning

• Brightspace Quickstart for Students (This orientation is a deep link to a Brightspace Course. You must be logged into Brightspace before clicking this link). Here, you can find a general overview on a number of useful instructional technology tools for you to use in your learning experience. 

On-Campus Students

• Residence Hall Labs are computer labs that provide access to general software and printing only for the residents of that specific hall.
• Wired Connectivity in Residence Halls

Loaner Equipment

• STL Library has short-term iPad and Laptop loaners (up to 7-days) for students.
• IT Service Desk has Laptop loaners with all necessary applications installed for students

Auditors

• Auditors have access to limited services.
